Alabama vs Utah on Tap Today // Friday Feet

This has been a busy week and a busy Friday.  We started off the day with some tree trimming work on the farm.  Always good exercise and never a lack of work to be done.  The temperature has been going crazy lately.  Yesterday it was freezing and today it was about 60* so I managed to get in about a 10 mile bike ride before the bowl games started.

The bowl game of the day of course is Alabama vs Utah in the 2009 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.  It has been a very long time since Auburn has not made it to a bowl game, so this year I am just going to have to go for Alabama.  Hopefully next year we will be back in a bowl game somewhere warm.

Friday Feet today was a triple shot of trees, bike, and football (although the football game was Kentucky vs Easy Carolina, which was also a very good game).  As I write this the Alabama game is now and Utah has taken a touchdown lead, it should be a great game.  This year it seems like it has been a very long holiday and I am looking forward to getting back to a normal work week and to next weekend when Deb and I will take a short break down in Orange Beach.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Beautiful December Day, Valkyrie // Friday Feet

This was probably once of the nicest late December days that I can remember.  It was over 70* with partly cloudy, blue sky and I ended up working outside all day.  We ended up taking down our Christmas lights today and replacing them with our “everyday lights” which will remain up the rest of the year (these are lights that go around the inside of our patio).  We started decorating the patio for this coming summer, which actually was an idea in part from a friend Cindy Wall during her baptism (photos will be coming on down the road).

As the holiday days wind down I am really looking forward to getting back to work (without holiday interruptions).  We have so much coming up in the next few months, and I am really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.  One area we will be ramping up is “Twitter church”.  So if you are not a Twitter member yet, sign up and see what it’s all about.  Once you have signed up, you can follow Cornerstone from @cornerstonebuzz and if you are so inclined, you can follow me at @scottfillmer as well.

My Friday Feet post is a little late because I spent most of yesterday with family and at the movies.  My dad and I went to see Valkyrie and if you have any desire to see the story about the assassination attempt on Hitler, I would highly recommend this movie.  I knew very little about this story from WWII and although it was a movie, it did seem to follow the historical account fairly close.  Although I am not a big fan of Tom Cruise any more, it is hard to deny that this was one of the better movies of 2008.

feet in concrete

My friday feet post today is in recognition of the last Friday of the 2008 calendar year.  This photo is on the corner of our patio.  Deb and I placed our feet in the wet concrete just about this time two years ago when we moved into our house.  It is a marker or reminder of the passage of time to me and I look at it almost every time I walk across the patio.  2006, 2007, and a lot of 2008 are almost a blur in history now but this image has become almost a time capsule in my mind of when we finally moved into our house here in Auburn.

Welcome home to all those who were traveling over the last few days, hope your New Year will be great.

Dinner and a Movie // Friday Feet

This week was one of the more crazy weeks in the past few months, but today Deb and I went over to Georgia and had dinner and that is my friday feet this week.  The movie in case anyone was interested is With Honors (because my friend hasn’t let me borrow Dead Poets Society yet).  One thing I have been trying to get to this week was to shoot a new profile photo (you can see the finished pic here) for various avatars and networking sites.  The second shot here was when I got interrupted and Ebby joined me for the photo shoot.  She certainly did not help at all, but makes for a cute photo I guess.  Time to enjoy a few hours of Friday night and some work outside tomorrow.  Being that it is two days from official winter, it will be over 70* tomorrow, time to cut some fire wood.

How is Your Simple Christmas Going // Friday Feet

Our church has been going through a series called Simple Christmas and it was going well until this week.  This week has been so incredibly crazy for me I haven’t even had time to do a blog post.  Part of it is the photo in my Friday Feet post today.  You can see a better description of this new entry into our house here.

Ebby and Me on Friday

I have a huge list of blog entries and all kinds of new posts to do here, hopefully I can get to them over the weekend.  Have a nice weekend everyone.

Youth Boys Campout on the Farm // Friday Feet

This week my Friday Feet post is a little different.  We had the boys youth group out to have a campout, cookout, and whatever else they do at that age.  Being Friday I used this opportunity to get a Friday Feet shot in with some of the guys before they ate.  It was absolutely pitch dark but those are my feet in the middle and Rusty Hutson’s one foot stuck in the side, Heath to my right with socks on, and everyone else that stuck a foot in at the time.

Friday Feet

The boys play this sort of cruel version of a game that no one over the age of 25 should play called catch the flag.  I was given the “easy” task of guarding our teams flag (this is pitch dark night at 30* by the way) and when someone came by I was to “get” them.  After several sprints, tackles, and sumersalts that this body hadn’t done in a while I was exhausted.

The food was great.  They brought out some fraternity grill on a trailer and cooked all night until we were all full.  Breakfast was a different story.  I learned you need to cook a normal portion times 10 for these guys, but it was all great fun.

Jame Bond Quantum of Solace, Dinner, and a Whirlpool // Friday Feet

This Friday night Deb and I decided to take off from working and go see the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace and have dinner at Friday’s (not because it was Friday), and do our friday feet photo post (this one may be TMI, but it’s my blog).  I actually saw two other friday feet posts (here if your on Facebook and follow Kevin, and here if you read Stephen DeVries blog) by fellow bloggers this week and although it was a total coincidence, let’s just say for ego sake it was for this series.

The new James Bond movie was good, although a few observations.  The last movie Deb and I saw in the theater was Casino Royale in 2006 (yes the last James Bond movie), and these last two have been different but really good.  There were few gadgets and the cars were some futuristic hydrogen cell Ford?  The cost of a movie is still ridiculous.  We went to the 4:20 show, ticket were $14, a small coke (I think 8oz) and a small popcorn was $10, and after talking to a friend in China, apparently everyone over there can watch the same movie for $1.00.  Oh well, all part of the fun I guess.

Hook\'em Horns Texas Rubber Duck

I used Deb’s feet in the photo again (for those of you new to my blog, yes, we are married for some 15+ years now), pretty much a dead giveaway who’s who, but, Deb put the duck on the left in the photo just for you b/, yes, that is actually a Hook’em Horns rubber duck.  You can’t see it for my big toe but it says Texas across the front.  She’s pretty proud of that duck (although it’s fun to fill him up with water and sink him).

Auburn Wins 2008 Basketball Home Opener // Friday Feet

Today was Auburn’s opening day game in men’s basketball.  Final score was 75-60 and a win against Missouri State.  The Auburn basketball team looked good and Deb and I had a nice evening out.  Our Friday Feet photo this week is from Mike & Ed’s Barbecue in Auburn.  If you are ever in the Auburn area give them a try, great BBQ (pork or chicken), one of many in the Auburn/Opelika area.

Happy Halloween Version of Friday Feet With Apples, Not Candy

It’s Friday once again, Halloween, and just two days away from Daylight Savings time where on this side of the time zone (just miles from the ETZ border) it will be dark just after lunch starting Sunday afternoon.  Click Friday Feet if you are unfamiliar with my Friday post and join in.  Just post a photo of where you were standing today and leave a comment to let us know how to find your blog.  I had a quick photo shoot with the kids in their Halloween costumes (see full shoot here) and spent a good bit of the rest of the morning with a friend of mine (Josh) and his beautiful kids (here) out here on the farm.  My feet post is Josh and I in the cumc lobby on our way to lunch today.

Halloween Party with the Kids

We don’t get many trick or treaters out here at our place, (especially since we are 1/2 a mile from the next house and our fence probably prohibits a visit) so I used a photo of this nice plate full of apples my mother game me yesterday from a nearby farm.  I actually got the idea of the apple photo from Brad Ruggles and his little girl (see My New Desktop Wallpaper) but he did a far better job with the color.  Just over there and tell Brad Happy Birthday.  Deb looks great, but a little more kin to Eve holding out the apple for me than Brad’s daughter.  Thanks for letting me steal your idea brad.

Looking forward to some good football this weekend.  Happy Friday Halloween everyone.

Work From Home Rainy Day and Some Pumpkin Carving // Friday Feet

Today was a cloudy, cold, rainy day, something we haven’t seen here in what feels like years. It was a great day to stay inside and get some work done, so eventually, I went outside to take some pics for my Friday Feet post.  If you are not familiar with my Friday post it is just a simple photo of my feet, wherever I happen to be on Friday.  Today, I went for a walk around our house (in the rain) as I usually do later in the afternoon and took this photo below.  I like simple photos.  Photos with only 2 or 3 elements and 2 or 3 colors.  The pine needles have started to fall in large numbers now and these bright tan needles were all over the place.  It gave me a photo with two colors and two subjects.  You can still see a lit bit of green grass beneath the needles hanging on to the 70 degree weather we have had as of late.

If you have a blog, and a camera (doesn’t have to be anything super duper, even a cell phone camera will do) join me in the Friday Feet post.  Just post a photo of where you are and include your feet, then just link over here or leave a comment on this post so we can see your post as well.

Yesterday Deborah and I did our annual carving of our pumpkins.  I won’t tell you which one is Deborah’s but I will say that one of her degrees is in Political Science and she likes to do these fancy jobs.  I am more the fly by the seat of my pants pumpkin carver and just get out the knife and start chopping away.  Anyone else carve a pumpkin recently?  Let me know so I can check it out.

There is another busy weekend planned starting tomorrow and Sunday.  On Saturday I will head out with ARM (Alabama Rural Ministries) to work on a house and then on Sunday our church is hosting their annual trunk or treat.  Have a nice weekend everyone.

View of Our House from a Tree Swing // Friday Feet

This is sort of a follow up to Do You Have a Quiet and Peaceful Place to Hide? which for some reason is one of my highest traffic posts and also A Foggy Summer Morning in Auburn Alabama (both different views of the swing).  This is yet another view from our tree swing, this time looking back at my house.  This is where I ate lunch yesterday.  Sometimes when I should be going to the dog house, I just go the tree swing.  It is my quiet and peaceful place to hide, where no cell towers or wifi reaches (at the moment), just wind, trees, and birds.

Friday Feet

This also serves as the first post of what I am going to try to make in a series of posts called Feet on Friday.  A popular shot on blogs and Internet sites is that is your own feet standing somewhere.  We are all in different places every week, I thought it would be good to take the popular foot shot on Friday and post it, so this is the first one.
