Today’s Friday Feet comes from a live album recording here at Cornerstone Church in Auburn. I will probably post a few more photos of the shoot tomorrow but for now, here is a smattering of feet and music from the night. The live recording took place over two nights, last night and tonight, and was the first live worship recording for an album our band has completed.
I love the privilege of getting to worship throughout the week and not just on Sunday, or at least in the manner we do on Sunday. This was a special night in many respects, and I enjoyed the unique experience of getting to shoot and worship at the same time. Have a great weekend all.

This is just about the first time I have felt like or had the energy to get back on my blog since I got home from Uganda. This particular trip has been the most difficult trip to readjust from and just back into just the normal routine of things. I got sick just about the day I walked into my house (and am still recovering), then Deborah got sick yesterday (and she is still recovering) so I never could distinguish between jet lag and sick lag. I could probably have seen this coming as I spent every ounce of energy I had in Africa over that 10 day period.
It’s more than that though, it’s a deeper connection made with some people literally half way around the world, and our life in my cultural context doesn’t give you any time to “adjust”, it just keeps moving forward at breakneck speed. There is nothing wrong with life over here any more than life anywhere else, ever single place has it’s own struggles, and often they are almost identical in nature, we just always think they are different because of the lens we look through every day.
Today’s Friday Feet comes to you from Kampala as we waited with the gals from Sixty Feet to go inside the second children’s facility in Kampala. I took those shots above that day with this post in mind, even if the two K’s (Kelsey and Kirby) didn’t know what I was doing, and honestly, I can’t remember which K’s toes are shown below, I think they are Kirby’s. What was really amazing to me about life over there is that almost everything we did was either preceded or followed by some kind of worship to our King, and it was often 60-90 minutes at a time, and it didn’t matter what day of the week it was. They just hauled the drums over, dropped them down and we were good to go.
I know Sixty Feet’s ministry name has to do with number of feet deep not actual toes and shoes, but it works for my Friday Feet today, thanks for being such great sports and for the work you two are doing over there Kelsey and Kirby.

I’m playing catchup today with some photos I took earlier in the week. My countdown clock to Uganda (we leave on Wednesday) is running faster than a normal clock it seems and I didn’t get a chance to post these Tuesday night after the festival. So, today’s Friday Feet comes from the Auburn City School Fall Festival that took place on Tuesday, but the feet shot above was just way to cute not to use for today’s post. Each year the Auburn city school system gathers at Duck Samford park in Auburn for their fall festival, and this year I was asked to take some photos of the opening band, called No Refunds. The youth have a great band and it was a lot of fun to listen to them play on Tuesday night.
Below is a shot of each of the band members from No Refunds. No that the fall festival is over we could use some actual fall weather.

Well the 2010 Auburn football season is officially under way. Today Auburn kicked off against Arkansas State and it was one of the most beautiful days weather wise I can remember for an opening day. Usually unbearable, today it was actually in the mid-80′s. The game was great, except for Auburn’s ever changing rules of what you can and can’t take into the stadium.
My favorite shot of the day has to be the girl in the Auburn band with her game face on (see gallery on Flickr as well). Some band mom somewhere knows who she is… just love the character of the shot. Click on any to see the larger size. War Eagle everyone.

Celebration Dinner is going to be intense tonight. It is the one big celebration that we have each year, once a year, at cumc to look back at what the church body did through the year and to look ahead at what is coming up in 2009. I have been really looking forward to this evening for some time. So much planning and detail has gone into making this a wonderful evening that I know those who decide to come out on Sunday night will be glad they did. If you can’t make it, we will be streaming the celebration live on mogulus here. I took this photo of BJ, our drummer for tonight, during the Wednesday night practice (see Year in Review and a Look Ahead at Celebration Dinner), and that was just practice.
NCAA College Football, Are you a Fan? Auburn vs Texas Tech
This has been one of the weirdest football years for Auburn, almost uncharted territory since Tommy Tuberville took the rains here 10 years ago. It sort of mirrors Tommy’s first year here at Auburn and I hope this doesn’t turn out to be book ends to his career here in Auburn. It has been a real tough season for Auburn in 2008, I would hate to see what happens if we lose the homecoming game to Tennessee Martin next week.
I took this shot above of Tommy during Tiger Walk for the Tennessee game (see Auburn vs Tennessee Photos, Tigers Football Wins 14-12 // Game 5, hope Tennessee Martin turns out to be a win too, I would like to see him walk Tiger Walk again?
What is interesting about NCAA football this year is although one of my teams, Auburn, is going down faster than the Titanic, my other team has turned the corner to what might become their all time greatest football season ever. Last night Texas Tech beat Texas in one of the best football games I have seen this year. Making a catch at the end with 8 seconds to go to win the game was unreal, and watching the highlights I still expected him to fall out of bounds or something.
For those who might not know, I spent the first two years of my college career over at Texas Tech and have very found memories of going to school in Lubbock. Certainly isn’t the same view as living here in Auburn but it was a great place to go to school (and yes, I went to UAB, not Auburn).
My Weekend Giveaway
On another note. My last post has become very interesting. I seem to have found the fastest and best way to create spam. Give something away on your blog. We actually do this quite often on our other blogs. We (Deb mainly) has two blogs where she frequently gives away all kinds of door prizes for her readers and fellow knitters, but for those two (here and here) spam doesn’t seem to be an issue.
If you don’t know what I am talking about, please read I am Giving Away a Free Dell Dimension Computer and 17″ Flat Panel in 29 Days, and you will see what I am talking about. Even though I seem to be bombarded with spam now, I am going to keep it going for the reason I posted it in the first place and would prefer to find a non-profit or some organization that could use a computer. If you know anyone like that, just have the enter on the post above. All spam like entries will be discarded, and certainly won’t be considered.

Last night I had dinner with some friends and stuck around to listen to the band practice for Sunday morning. It is so nice to spend a little bit of time with people who are passionate about what they do (like b/, Josh and several others), because it’s contagious. If you have ever been around someone who is passionate about what they do, you will notice that it wears off on everyone around them. The same as negativity produces negative people, so it goes with passion and positive people.
As a photographer I think you really find the look or the shot you have been looking for all along when you think you have exhausted all possible angles, focal lengths, and exposures and just sit down and stop trying. It’s at that point that you really have to start getting creative. Sometimes when the creative juices are not flowing that can look very forced, and down right bad, then there are other times when you look at the results and think, wow, why didn’t I try this all along.
Last night was one of those night, for me anyway. I had taken a few shots of the band’s practice and couldn’t really find anything new and exciting so I just sat down on the stage next to the drum set and there it was. I really had been trying to get a good shot of the drums in this particular setup for about 6 months. I felt like raising my hands in the middle of thier set to say “I’ve got it!”, but hey, it’s just practice, right. So here are two of my favorite shots above from last night’s practice. The first, on the drums is BJ, and the second image is Rob from Marth’s Trouble (a band I have regrettably yet to shoot or see in person). Other images from last night can be found here.
Update on Cindy Wall’s Story
A story of Cindy Wall that many of you may already know at this point is continuing to make its way around the Internet. Cindy Wall’s commitment to Christ, baptism, and death in such short succession has now moved around in ways none of us who were involved could have possibly imagined. That may show the limitations I put on God and His greatness, but it is bigger than just our congregation or church. See some of the more recent posts from others like:
- Baptism via Skype: A KingdomTide Story from Asbury Alumni World (Asbury Theological Seminary)
- Cindy Wall (Worship Journey)

- Can You Baptize Someone Over the Internet? (Tim Stevens)
- Friends, family remember Wall as kind, giving (Auburn Plainsman News)
- A Week I will Never Forget (Jack Fisher, [the person who shot the video shown on YouTube])
There are many other examples, and I know I have missed some important ones, but this is a good example of how her story has made it around the Internet, just an incredible story.

Football has started all over the country and this past Saturday was Auburn’s first home game of 2008 vs University of Louisiana Monroe, and it was a 34-0 win. It was football in the south. Game day tailgating and all the hoopla that goes along with everything football in Auburn. There was only one offensive touchdown in the entire game (see photo gallery) and I happen to get a photo of the catch in the end zone.
Auburn football is of course more than just the game itself. There is a lot of craziness that goes on in the days leading up to the game, and just before the game itself. Below you will see a few of the images of game day on a typical home game in Auburn. Thank goodness this was a night game so we all didn’t fry (that comes next week). Being a night game, it game me a chance to take some images of the stadium at night with the lights. I think night photography always has a little extra something. With available light photography, you can always get something great with the lights.
In order these are a wide angle shot of Jordan Hare Stadium from the south west corner upper deck, next is the normal ticket exchange that goes one, then the traditional Auburn raptor, a Golden Eagle, and the Auburn drum section of the band. There were several other images of Tiger Walk that are included. Next week should be HOT as the game starts at 11:30am. Don’t know if I will even want to bring my camera, but if I do I will post some images of the game here next week.
