@jason thanks for chiming in, I think you will find as your walk grows and matures that things will start to line up after a while. I totally understand where you are coming from and your questions... I don't look at it as having a "right wing" position but I try to take a Biblical position and forget about the politics.

Some times they line up, some times they don't, but we live in a free country where at least we will never be forced into doing something that is against our faith. There may be things on the fringe, but not by force.

A lot of the positions in social conservatism have to do with taking government out of the equation and letting people decide and fix problems, not just turn to government for all the answers. That is also what was done throughout biblical history. Once the governments started to oppress, people revolted, same now.

I hope you come back again and continue to grow in your faith. Scott

Thank you for taking the gloves off. I look forward to reading your thoughts and observations.

I share your positions on politics, however as a new believer, I am struggling with being christian first, and a patriotic American second. The reason why I have this problem is on the issue of Guantanamo bay and the torture question, and social conservatism such as welfare and health care. I find myself having a "right wing" position but stopping myself to say that the Jesus view is opposite.

by all means... like I said, I don't have a problem at all with an open discussion, but I do agree with you, to much emphasis is placed on the denomination or "labels" in general. Thanks for reading

Love the thoughts and look forward to the open discussion. I tend to look around alot lately rather than act. I too and looking more closely at my actions... my words... my thoughts.

With that said, one issue with religion to me is that alot of people have forgotten something important - the church is the bride of Christ - not the Baptist church or the Methodist Church, or the x church, or the y church is "specifically and seperate from the others" the bride. If you are bible based, and love Christ, you are a member of the church with a capital C.

The same with politics - I vote for who I want - not by party lines. I had a friend who switched parties in order to run for office. What does that tell you - there is a core group of people who push one button and are done voting. They don't care about the person or what they stand for.... Not my style.

I hope that as you move forward in this new approach that I will be able to disagree with you so that lively convesation develops.

and Ephesians 2 does a good job talking about Jesus taking down the barrier and dividing wall...too often we are quick to put it up and discount the work of the Holy Spirit through discussions we avoid...

I'm done.

I am still processing all that....
1. I agree with most of it
2. problem sometimes is as we talk politics and religion we don't base our politics on our Faith- as in God's Word. If we had to back up each political platform we believe with scripture...could we do it? I think that is a vital part of the intelligent conversation portion of your discussion above.
3. I miss the spooky one eyeball shots... :)
