I am guilty of this. This past year I have been really trying to not be so quick to have my mind made up in a split second. Becasue so many people have a story... are dealing with different things. And you think that I would have realized that being one of those people who have a story. This year I've been able to slow down and listen to the world around me... to see what I can do for someone who is hurting or in need.

Great post Scott.

[...] Another guy I follow talked about something similar yesterday. It is rather long in terms of a blog, but read it and you will see what he is getting at. In particular he said, “I think in our culture of today’s sound bite mentality we no longer have the ability to absorb and understand the whole story. We don’t have the time, nor do we care, we just come to some conclusion, right or wrong, and move on. This is the same with friends, co-workers, acquaintances, or just those passing by on the street. We are so busy that we only have time to take a snap shot of the things that pass through our life and then forget about it and move on.” [...]

do we look at something from the outside and make conclusions without knowing the entire story? - I think so many of us do. I look a direction, and look away thinking one particular thing about that one particular person. Just like your eagle - it is only a piece of the story - not the entire story, but if I stop there - well then I get the snapshot not the story.

Do we judge people in this fashion? & Do we conclude the worth of someone based on these snapshots? I think I am moving further away from this approach these days. I was definitely there a few years back, but I feel I am not above anyone else. If I am not above (or below them) then how can I judge them. That is not my role. That is God's role.

Anyway, thanks for the post. I appreciate the words you put out there and how you tie it back to your art.

hey scott,

your photography is so amazing. it's just beautiful. i've never seen pictures so crystal clear before online.

i liked your verse from john 4. i think another part of that story that also relates to what you're talking about comes just a little later in v. 10 and 15. when Christ offers her "living water" and she is interested b/c she will no longer have to come get water from the well. she simply takes Christ's words at face value as we ALL so often do.

again, love your photos!

Hey man, your photography is absolutely amazing. I'm more into video myself, but wish my video looked half as good as your pictures. I'm sure I could probably learn a thing or two from you!
